Best Places to Eat and Drink in Caye Caulker, Belize.

Best Places to Eat and Drink in Caye Caulker, Belize.

Breakfast:

  • Errolyn’s House of Fry Jacks ($): This place is always busy. Seriously, there is always a line. You just walk up to the counter, order your fryjack and then wait for them to call your number. It is cheap, quick and delicious. There are a few places to sit down, but usually easier as a to-go order.

  • Namaste Cafe ($): I think I spent every single morning I was on the island here. They offer a few different breakfast deals at a great price(pictured below). I sat here drinking my coffee and writing for hours. On top of being yummy and affordable, they offer (pay as you wish) yoga on the roof.

  • Paradiso ($): This is an adorable cafe off the main strip of the island. This restaurant is actually owned by a couple who is from the USA. There is also good WiFi here, which isn't always easy to comeby on the island.

Lunch:

  • Sip N Dip ($$): This is one of the places that I fell in love with on the island. This fun restaurant serves casual bar food and lots of fun drinks. Though the quality is just average, you can enjoy your beverages IN the ocean! They have tables, seats and swings in the water so you can sip while you dip! They also have a water slide, water volleyball court and floaties.

  • Bamboozled ($$): This is just a regular restaurant! Lot’s of seafood options.

  • Belizean Flavas ($): This is a good cheap eat. If you’re backpacking or just on a budget, this is a great place to go! You will see lots of locals here!

Dinner:

  • Wish Willy’s ($): This is literally in Willy’s backyard. He has wooden picnic tables set up and a grill where he BBQ’s each night. The drinks are in a cooler. The night we were there, a group of friends brought fish they had caught that day and Willy cooked them for the group. If you can’t find it, ask some locals to point you in the right direction, they will know what you’re talking about!

  • Barrier Reef Sports Bar ($$): I spent a lot of time here while I was on the island. This is such a fun place. If you’re backpacking or solo traveling, it is a great place to meet people. Some nights they do activities such as trivia or karaoke. I loved this place.

  • Southside Pizza ($$): This was a fun place to hang out at. The night we went, there was live music playing. We had followed this singer around to different restaurants a couple nights in a row. It isn’t that big of a space, but it was packed. It had great energy and the pizza was pretty good too!

  • Roy’s Blue Water Grill ($): We ended up going there one night because the call boys (the ones who stand outside and hand out menus) had asked us every night. It was pretty good, but the hours were funky.

  • Hibiscus ($$$): The same musician that we saw at Southside Pizza was at this place, so we ended up having dinner here. It had lots of vegetarian options, which I appreciated. It did seem a little overpriced, but it had a nice ambience.

Drinks:

  • Lazy Lizard ($$$): This is perhaps the most famous restaurant on this island. It is down at the Split. This makes it an optimal spot for watching the sunset. On top of that, it is somewhat of a party place. They play loud music late into the night. It is always a good time here.

  • Sip N Dip  ($$): see above description.

  • Barrier Reef Sports Bar ($$): On top of being a great bar hang out, they do have a full dinner menu. It is full of bar food, but once again, a great break from all the seafood.

  • Margarita Mike’s ($$): This is an open bar with swings on the porch. This casual drink spot is a perfect stop. You can either take your drink to go or sit down and enjoy the gorgeous view.

Coffee/Juice:

  •  Ice N Beans ($$): This family owned shop serves lots of tasty treats. They have the best Frappuccino’s youll find on the island.

  • The Juice Bar ($): This adorable juice stand is a small family owned business. They use only fresh fruit and it is completely customizable. The service here was always above and beyond. We came here almost everyday! It was so good!

ALSO…

  • Make sure you check out the street venders as well. They set up shop every day down by the water. They have fresh catches and you can negotiate prices with them.

  • When visiting Caye Caulker please realize that it is an island, therefore they need to import many things. Because of this, not everything is as cheap as you’d think.

  • The Belizean dollar is tied to the US dollar 2/1. So if something costs $2 Belizean dollars, it is $1 US dollar.

  • On the island, all prices are written in BZ dollars, unless specifically stated.

  • There are no open container bans here, so you can drink alcohol in public. This means you can bring drinks down to the Split to watch the sunset or drink a beer laying in the hammocks! (highly recommend)

These are by no means the only options for food/dining on the island. These are just the places that I frequented during my time here. I hope you find this helpful for your own visit.

I also just want to remind everyone of the importance of shopping local when you are traveling. You are visiting these people’s home. You are enjoying the beauty of their country and customs. Be respectful, be polite and support their communities.
